Dr. Terry Koehn: I Can’t Help But Wonder… What's Next

Do you like previews of what is coming down the road? If so, this column is for you! If not, maybe it still will be of help. I am taking this opportunity to look ahead a bit at upcoming messages, studies, and even offer a glimpse of the season of Lent…yes, it’s not that far away, even though we may still be packing Christmas décor away.
First, this coming Sunday (Jan. 11) we will focus on the gift of baptism. My message will “By Water and the Spirit,” and our worship time will include a service of renewing your baptism, often a moving and meaningful time for many.
Then, beginning Jan. 18 and running through Feb. 15, I will share a message series called “Breakthrough.” The topics will include dealing with our “pasts” as well as things like feelings of guilt, lingering disappointments, and other struggles that can hold us back from the abundant life God desires for us.
Even farther ahead, Feb. 22, the first Sunday of Lent, we will have a Mission Sunday, and our covenant missionary, Rev. Fuxia Wang, will be with us again after it’s been several years since she was here.
Meanwhile, be looking for details on some winter/spring studies. Daena Koehn will offer a unique six-week course on a spiritual approach to “decluttering.” I will resume Disciple Bible Study, looking at the New Testament for about twelve weeks. In addition, we will announce details for “Ash Wednesday,” the traditional opening of the season of Lent. My Lenten sermon series will be titled “Encounter,” built on some significant conversations Jesus had in John’s gospel. And I will offer a Lenten study with days and time still to be announced.
All in all, we have a lot to look forward to as we anticipate ways God’s Spirit will be at work among us! Plan to invite someone with you for a Sunday, a series, or a study.
Blessings,
Pastor Terry
